Do You Rejoice Over the Misfortunes of Others? 7-21-11

I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure.
Clarence Darrow

Different quote today- Doesn't sound so motivational right off the bat does it!? Well my goal in motivating you isn't always in the quote but rather in your reflection AND self-application of the commentary. The GOAL today is to reflect on how we feel at the misfortune of OTHERS. Especially when its someone we never liked and cant stand. We may secretly rejoice when something bad happens to someone we deem wicked but is that the most healthy way to feel? Not by a long shot!

I wont go into right or wrong morality here because each situation is relative. But the mindset of rooting for someone to fail doesn't make us a winner. In fact, its quite the opposite. Its makes us losers because that is what we are looking for- someone to become a loser. When someone wrongs you, why not learn to forgive?

"Forgive? Never!" , is the story of the loneliest man who ever lived.

Do you realize that we so often mistakenly think that forgiveness is a gift to the OTHERS when in reality IT is a gift to ourselves! Next time you find that you cannot stand someone instead of avoiding them, make an effort to get to know them. If anything you will learn you had wrong perceptions about the person or you will at least understand WHY they act that way and learn how to deal with it effectively. Lastly, the best that may happen- you may change your viewpoint and realize they aren't so bad after all. But only those with truly open hearts and minds can do that.

Are you one of them?
